ABC Releases Audience Data for More than 200 U.S. Daily Newspapers

On Nov. 5 ABC successfully released inaugural Audience-FAX data in conjunction with the circulation FAS-FAX report. Two hundred and six U.S. daily newspapers are participating in the new audience-reporting initiative that for the first time incorporates circulation, print readership and online audience metrics on ABC’s media reports. Of the 206 newspapers reporting, 112 reported as part of tier one and 94 reported as part of tier two.

“The new information available to marketers via Audience-FAX gives us greater insight into readership trends, audience demographics and online reach, with independent verification by ABC to ensure accountability and consistency," noted Mark Kaline, global media manager, Ford Motor Co. “It's great to see more than 200 newspapers participating in this initial phase. We hope to see a lot more in the future."

In addition to incorporation into ABC’s media statements, the Audience-FAX data are also available in an industry database hosted by Scarborough Research at www.audiencefax.com. The database allows advertisers to generate custom reports, comparing select markets or newspapers across a range of demographic segments, such as age, gender, household income and education. The Audience-FAX database is free, but does require registration.

Audience-FAX is a joint initiative between ABC, Scarborough Research and the NAA that allows U.S. daily newspapers to report print readership, online readership, net combined audience and total Web site activity on ABC reports. The next Audience-FAX data will be released on April 28, 2008 with the FAS-FAX report.
