Six Directors Join New ABC Canada Board
ABC recently announced the appointment of six media buying and publishing executives to the newly formed ABC Canada board : Ted Boyd, CEO and Partner, 58Ninety Inc.; John Clinton, senior vice president and general manager of magazines, GTC Transcontinental Media; Phillip Crawley, publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail; Sara Hill, president M2 Universal; Lorraine Hughes, president, OMD Canada; and John Milne, senior vice president, business and professional publishing group, Rogers Publishing Limited.
They are joined on the ABC Canada board by current ABC directors Sunni Boot, president and CEO, Zenith Optimedia Canada Inc.; Bruce Claassen, chairman, Aegis Media Canada and CEO, Genesis-Vizem Inc.; Brian Segal, president and CEO, Rogers Publishing, Rogers Media; Dennis Skulsky, president and CEO, Canwest Publishing, Canwest; and Robert Troutbeck, president, Troutbeck-Chernoff to form the 11-person ABC Canada board. Its first meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16, in Toronto.
“On behalf of my fellow Canadian directors and the entire ABC board, I welcome the new directors to ABC and I look forward to working with them on the tasks ahead,” said Segal. “Our expanded representation will allow us to focus on the changing Canadian marketplace and the individual needs of ABC’s Canadian members.”
The ABC Canada board will elevate ABC members’ profile in the Canadian marketplace by increasing Canadian autonomy and control over rules and reporting changes and enhancing ABC’s services and policies to continue to meet the unique needs of the Canadian market. One of the first board’s first tasks is to review the separate rules and articles ABC drafted for all Canadian publishing divisions. ABC has already implemented Canadian-specific rules for newspapers.
Ted Boyd
As president and CEO of 58Ninety Inc., Boyd has worked on campaigns with Canadian Tire, Molson Canada, CTV globemedia, OLG, Unilever, Workopolis and WWE. Prior to joining 58Ninety, he was president and CEO of Iceberg Media.com He has also held various positions at Indigo Online and Young and Rubicam Canada. Boyd is the founding president of the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada.
John Clinton
Clinton was appointed senior vice president and general manager of magazines at Transcontinental Media in 2008. Previously, he served as president and CEO of Grey Advertising in Toronto and chairman and CEO of JWT Canada. Clinton has a Bachelor or Arts degree from Queens University at Kingston.
Phillip Crawley
Crawley is publisher and CEO of The Globe and Mail. Prior to joining The Globe and Mail, Crawley held various senior positions at some of the world’s leading newspaper and media companies, including The New Zealand Herald, the Times Supplement (London), The South China Morning Post, Asia Magazine and The Daily Telegraph (London).
Sara Hill
Appointed president of M2 Universal in 2008, Hill is responsible for the operations, business development and client relationships for all of Canada’s offices. M2 Universal’s client roster includes RBC, Labatt, General Motors, Sony and CBC. Hill is involved in many industry organizations, including ComBase, the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement, the Canadian Advertising Research Foundation, Broadcast Research Council and NADbank.
Lorraine Hughes
In 2002, Hughes was named president of OMD Canada where she has led the agency to several Marketing Magazine awards, including Media Agency of the Year in 2006. Hughes serves on the boards of both the Canadian Media Directors’ Council and the Advertising Standards Council.
John Milne
Milne began his career at Rogers Publishing as an assistant editor in 1979. He has also served as publisher of Benefits Canada, The Medical Post and as senior vice president of the healthcare and financial services group before accepting his current position as senior vice president, business and professional publishing group. He is a graduate of Trent University with a master’s degree from York University.
