ABC Board Approves Consolidated Media Report for Business Publications
At its July 2006 meeting, the ABC board of directors approved a new “Consolidated Media Report” for business publications. This new report presents circulation, pass-along receivership, Web site traffic, and other auditable media in one aggregated figure represented as “Total Audience Reach.” The report is available with the June 2006 period. View a prototype CMR. “Today, publishing executives are responsible for much more than print media,” said Jill Manee, vice president and publisher of Advertising Age and chair of the ABC Business/Farm Committee. “We are, in fact, multi-platform brands that include print circulation, pass-along readers, Web sites, e-newsletters, and other media – all equating to a total audience. The ABC board is excited to introduce this new consolidated report to reflect the changes taking place in our marketplace, and Advertising Age looks forward to being one of the first publications to issue its report.” ABC will audit all of the data published in the Consolidated Media Report. ABC Interactive (ABCi) will audit Web site activity and ABC’s Pass-Along Receivership Study will be used to evaluate pass-along readership. Additional reported data, such as e-newsletters and trade show distribution, will also be ABC-audited. Circulation data will be pulled from the business publication’s latest Publisher’s Statement and will be subject to audit during the publication’s annual audit. The Consolidated Media Report will have a shelf life of approximately six months. It will be updated twice a year, after the release of the business publication’s latest Publisher’s Statement. The approximate cost of the report itself is between $250 and $500. The released reports will be made available alongside ABC Audit Reports and Publisher’s Statements to subscribers of ABC’s e-Data online database.
