ABC Releases Inaugural FDVS Report for The Gazette in Montreal

Earlier this month ABC released the first Flyer Distribution Verification Service (FDVS) audit report for The Gazette in Montreal. The Gazette was part of the initial group of 10 CanWest MediaWorks newspapers that enrolled in FDVS when it was introduced last March.

“At The Gazette we are continuously striving to serve our customers better in our endless pursuit of quality and excellence,” emphasized Wendy Desmarteaux, vice president, operations, The Gazette. “We always believed that our processes and controls were effective—now we know for certain. Our customers deserve the credibility and accountability assured by the qualitative verification of our advertising insert distribution provided by ABC’s FDVS audit.”

Other CanWest newspapers participating in the program include: Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen, Leader-Post (Regina, Saskatchewan), The Star Phoenix (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), The Province (Vancouver, British Columbia), The Vancouver Sun, Times-Colonist (Victoria, British Columbia) and The Windsor Star.

“The release of the first FDVS report so quickly after the launch of the service speaks to the quality programs that many Canadian newspapers have in place and also demonstrates the demand for independent verification of flyer programs,” said ABC’s Robert White, senior vice president, Canada.

Conducted during a newspaper’s annual circulation audit, the qualitative FDVS audit evaluates the flyer insert process for compliance with eight key standards, including reviews of insert-receiving procedures, security policy and practice prior to insert, quality control during insertion and timely and accurate quantity information for advertisers.

The results of the audit are published online in ABC’s electronic database. All FDVS audit reports are available at no charge to current ABC eStatement subscribers. A prototype report is available on ABC’s Web site.
