ABC’s Preprint Projection Center Streamlines the Print Media Buying Process for Newspapers and Advertisers

In April, ABC launched the Preprint Projection Center (PPC), an online tool designed to streamline communication between newspapers and advertisers by reducing the need for advertisers to contact multiple newspapers to request updated preprint quantities and distribution information. The tool also gives advertisers and agencies access to more timely circulation projections to better project their preprint production requirements.

"The Preprint Projection Center is one place to go at any given time to get newspaper circulation information,” said Christopher Cope, president and CEO of American Communications Group. “It provides our buyers with a single source solution to preprint media buying and is certain to reduce the need to contact hundreds of newspapers each time we require the most current circulation quantities. The PPC is a big win for everyone.”

The PPC is free for newspapers and advertisers and is privacy-protected, allowing advertiser members access to all the newspaper data, whereas publishers are unable to open other publisher’s data. The online tool provides publishers with a secure, confidential, centralized location to upload projected circulation data on a monthly basis, 90 days in advance of distribution. Participating newspaper participants are already receiving positive feedback from their advertisers.

“We are very excited about the Preprint Projection Center,” said Hank N. Vander Veen, publisher of Merced Sun-Star. “Immediately after posting updated draws into the PPC online tool, we began to see a shift in quantities from several advertisers. In most cases they increased those quantities, improving revenue while insuring we had enough pre-prints to deliver to subscribers.”

ABC will hold a free webinar on June 26 at 10 a.m. CDT open to all newspapers, advertisers and agencies. At the webinar you will hear publishers and advertisers discuss the development of the PPC, the importance of the tool to the industry and its valuable role in the media buying process. There will also be a live demo to show newspapers how to upload data and buyers how to access and download the data. The webinar is free, but registration is required.

Additional information about the Preprint Projection Center can be found online, including detailed instructions for newspapers for the demo product, live tool and helpful guidelines for uploading data into the tool. Newspapers can also go to the online filing section of ABC’s Web site to upload their information. Advertisers can access the tool by logging into the e-Data analysis tools.
