New Resources Posted in Qualification and Reporting Support Center

Earlier this month, ABC posted new information in the U.S. newspaper qualification and reporting support center, including detailed newspaper board actions from the March 2008 meeting, an implementation timeline outlining various phases of the transition period and a prototype Publisher’s Statement.

The qualification and reporting support center is the place for ABC members to find all the details related to the upcoming rule changes. Designed to serve as a resource hub, the center houses everything from board actions and prototype reports to NewsBulletin articles and training opportunities, to rule language and resource guides.

ABC Board Holds Interim Meeting; Takes Action on Three More Rules

On April 28, ABC’s board of directors held an interim meeting to discuss outstanding items related to the overhaul of the U.S. newspaper rules.

At their meeting, the board voted to modify three more rules:

• Basic Price Defined, Must Be Established for Each Frequency
• Intermittent Subscription Change Further Outlined
• New Standards for “Forced” Frequency Conversions

Rule Language to be Posted in Support Center; Members Encouraged to Provide Feedback

Later this week, ABC will update the support center with a draft of the new proposed rule language. Members will have the opportunity to review the language and provide feedback to ABC about the readability and functionality of the rules.

Following the member review period, the ABC board will consider the rule language for final approval at its July meeting.

New Monthly NewsBulletin Column Dedicated to U.S. Newspaper Rule Changes

Beginning next month, ABC will launch a new column in its monthly online NewsBulletin focused solely on the upcoming newspaper rule changes. The column will be a staple in the online NewsBulletin over the next couple of years as members navigate this period of transition. It will feature FAQs, interviews with ABC staff and industry leaders, a comprehensive review of the new report formats and tips on preparing for the changes.
