Major Magazine Publishers Commit all Their Titles to Rapid Report
Recently, Hearst Magazines, Condé Nast, Wenner Media and Bauer Publishing announced they would commit all of their titles to ABC’s Rapid Report by January 2008. Most of the major consumer magazine publishers have now pledged to report via this online tool. Previously Time Inc. and Hachette Filipacchi Media made the decision to report all of their top-line circulation. Early adopters included American Media Inc., Meredith Publishing Group and Rodale that entered all of their titles when Rapid Report was released in 2006. “It’s a great move,” Robin Steinberg, senior vice president of print investment and activation at MediaVest recently told Advertising Age. “It demonstrates leadership; it shows accountability and confidence in reporting numbers on a more immediate basis, thus keeping magazines competitive with other disciplines.” Approximately one-third of the top 200 magazines are currently using ABC’s Rapid Report tool, with the number of titles expected to nearly double in January 2008. The full participation of publishers of top titles is an important step to providing advertisers with timely, per-issue circulation reporting and transparency. ABC Rapid Report allows publishers to voluntarily report their key top-line circulation data on an issue-by-issue basis within weeks of the off-sale or distribution date. The report gives advertisers and advertising agencies timely access to fresh circulation data. Some of the top-line data offered in Rapid Report includes: paid and verified subscriptions, single-copy sales, rate base and analyzed non-paid circulation.
