Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) Announces Joint Venture with Print Measurement Bureau (PMB)

TORONTO (April 4, 2005) -- The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) has launched a joint venture association with Canada’s Print Measurement Bureau (PMB) to produce a co-branded subscriber profile research verification service for the Canadian magazine industry.

Modeled on ABC’s popular U.S. subscriber profile service, this new product has been adapted by ABC and PMB to meet Canadian standards. It is available immediately to all Canadian magazines which cannot be measured by PMB for technical reasons and qualify for an ABC audit.

“This product gives Canadian magazines an opportunity to develop subscriber research of the highest quality and present it to advertising agencies and advertisers with an ABC/PMB stamp of approval,” stated ABC’s Bob White, senior vice president, Canada.

Stephen Ferley, president, PMB added, “PMB is very pleased to be entering into this joint venture with ABC. We are often contacted by smaller circulation magazines asking how PMB can help them. Under this new arrangement with ABC we can now offer the expertise of PMB to the huge number of Canadian titles which fall outside the technical scope of the full PMB study, by conducting subscriber profile studies according to a “template” jointly agreed by reputable industry organizations such as ABC and PMB.”

Hugh Dow, president, M2 Universal explained, “Until now, proprietary research from magazines had comparatively little credibility in the media buying community. Now that PMB and ABC standards are being used, subscriber readership research will be much more readily accepted and undoubtedly will play a part in the media selection process.”

PMB Print Measurement Bureau is Canada's leading national supplier of single-source print readership and product usage data . PMB has over 500 company members across a wide range of sectors of the Canadian media industry.

With more than 4,000 members, ABC is in its 91st year as the first and largest circulation-auditing organization in the world. Its members include the world’s leading magazine and newspaper publishers, advertisers and agencies. ABC maintains the world’s foremost electronic database of audited-circulation information and a growing array of verified readership, subscriber demographics and online activity data. ABC offers reports and services in a variety of flexible formats, including print, spreadsheet CD-ROM and online at www.accessabc.com.
