ABC Announces THE Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal as 1,000 Online Filer
Web-based Periodical Publisher’s Statement Filing Used By Most ABC Publisher Members After Launch Year
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (August 12, 2004) -- The Audit Bureau of Circulations today announced that The Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal (Minneapolis, Minn.) is the 1,000th participant in ABC’s recently introduced online Periodical Publisher’s Statement filing program.
Maureen Tubbs, marketing director, The Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal and Fact Book, comments, “Filing online is easy. We like the ability to send [the completed Publisher’s Statement form] electronically, instead of managing the paperwork. I liked the fact that it did some error checking and calculations to make sure everything was entered correctly.” Tubbs added, “After filing electronically, the response we got from ABC was quick. We were able to answer ABC’s questions so the process could move right along, getting our Publisher's Statement back to us even faster than before.”
ABC estimates more than 60% of its periodical publisher members filed online for the six-month period ending June 30, 2004. The ABC Periodical Publisher’s Statement is a standardized circulation report of publisher claims. Publisher’s Statements are audited by ABC. ABC’s online filing system provides an alternate to the paper form filing of Publisher’s Statements, and offers filers several added features:
- examples of successfully completed statements
- tutorials that train the filer on the online filing process
- a calculation feature that double-checks and flags any inconsistent FAS-FAX (a shorter report that shares identical top line data with Publisher Statement reports) versus Publisher’s Statement data
- a “save” feature that allows the filer to return at a later time to finish the filing process without losing already inputted data
- real-time statement filing for filers who need to meet ABC’s submission deadlines.
“Currently, the hard copy process is still recommended for first-time filers and is always available for publishers who prefer to file via hard copy, but online filing is a great option for those eligible to participate in it,” ABC’s Jessica Griffith, manager, technical review and report processing services, explains. “It’s important to keep in mind that every filer, online or hard copy, is processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Overall, the online process adds extra convenience for our staff and optimizes the reviewing and communication process.”
