ABC Announces 90th Conference and Annual Meeting
Print Media Professionals Gather to Discuss Competitive Advantage
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (September 9, 2004) -- ABC’s members and guests will convene at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario on November 10 - 12, 2004 to assess today’s print media landscape during the Audit Bureau of Circulations’ (ABC) 90th Conference and Annual Meeting. This year’s conference theme is “Making the Most of Your Competitive Advantage,” and will focus on what advertising buyers need from print, and how the industry is responding to those needs. A new program format offers more media-specific sessions. Interest in this annual event is illustrated by its growing attendee roster that includes established professionals from all sectors of the print media industry.
Brian Segal, president and CEO, Rogers Publishing, Rogers Media, will chair the meeting. Taking a cue from this year’s theme, programs and panels focused on the industry’s opportunities and advantages will be conducted by some of its most respected experts.
Starting Thursday’s opening general session, panelists Sunni Boot, president, Zenith Optimedia Canada; David Verklin, CEO, Carat North America; and Renetta McCann, CEO, Starcom North America, will share their insight on the print marketplace and what actions publishers can take to even better meet the needs of print buyers. After this, keynote speakers Jack Kliger, president and CEO, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., Inc. and Jay Smith, president, Cox Newspapers, Inc. will speak on current issues affecting the print media industry and how both periodicals and newspapers are responding to the needs of advertising buyers.
At ABC’s Annual Luncheon, Mary Kuntz, senior editor, Business Week, will address “The Vanishing Mass Market: The Evolution from Mass to Micromarketing” and the implications on this fundamental change for advertisers and publishers.
The afternoon’s events will continue the momentum with an address by ABC Chairman Robert Troutbeck, president, Troutbeck-Chernoff.
“The Circulator’s Role: Skills to Survive and Prosper” is the theme for the afternoon’s series of discussions. Two concurrent specialized sessions are designed to address what circulators need to know to be successful today and five years from now.
Friday’s closing session will feature the annual business meeting followed by constituency-specific divisional meetings, in which nomination and election of ABC Board members will take place.
