Market areas used in these reports are:
Metropolitan Statistical Area or MSA/CBSA. The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has the responsibility for defining MSA/CBSAs. MSA/CBSAs are defined by the OMB as a large population nucleus together with adjacent communities which have a high degree of economic and social integration with that nucleus. Generally, an area qualifies for recognition as an MSA/CBSA if it includes a city of 50,000 population or an urbanized area of 50,000 with a total metropolitan population of 100,000. The report lists all 362 MSA/CBSAs as defined by U.S. Office of Management and Budgeting.
The Metropolitan Statistical Area report is available in two (2) different formats: MSA/CBSA By Market or MSA/CBSA By Publication
Designated Market Area or DMA. DMAs are clusters of counties delineating television markets as defined by the A.C. Nielsen Company. Every county in the U.S. is assigned to one and only one DMA based on television viewing. Designated Market Areas are used by the advertising community to measure various forms of advertising media. The report lists all 211 DMAs as defined by A.C. Nielsen.
The Designated Market Area report is available in two (2) different formats: DMA By Market or DMA By Publication
