Making a Renewal Percentage Claim (Effective July 2003)

At the July 2003 board meeting ABC’s board modified Rule D 6.1 Renewals, as it relates to a publisher’s claim of a renewal percentage. Effective with the December 31, 2002 Publisher’s Statement the reporting of a renewal percentage for business publications became optional.

Modification to Rule D 6.1 Renewals received final passage and addresses those situations wherein a publisher’s wishes to make a renewal percentage claim not only on their Publisher’s Statement but when a claim is made in either advertising media kits or other marketing materials.

If a publisher makes a renewal percentage claim in either a written or oral manner, such claim must be verified and reported on the ABC Publisher’s Statement. The renewal percentage must be made in accord with ABC’s standard practices for calculating renewal percentage and records must be made available for audit review to support the claim made.
