Collection Stimulants Now Permitted to Obtain Demographic Information (Effective November 7, 2005)

At its November 2005 meeting, the ABC board of directors gave unanimous consent to amend Rule D 7.3 Collection Stimulants.

This rule has traditionally allowed publishers to provide new subscribers with an incentive, subsequent to receipt of the order, to encourage the remit of subscription payment in a timely manner.

The new rule language now allows publishers to also offer incentives to encourage subscribers to provide demographic information in a timely manner. An explanation of the incentive program and volume of subscriptions affected is required to be disclosed in the explanatory paragraph of the business publication’s Publisher’s Statement.
