Military Subscriptions - Rule F 2.8

At the March 2006 board meeting, the board voted to adopt a new rule regarding subscriptions purchased for military personnel.

The new rule is F2.8 Subscriptions Purchased for Military Personnel.

With the new military subscriptions rule, an individual or company can provide funds to purchase subscriptions for military personnel and count these in individually paid. These subscriptions have to be given as a normal expression of interest and may not promote a professional or business interest.

At the July 2006 ABC board meeting, the board clarified application of this rule relating to purchases made for distribution to public place locations for use in waiting room type environments. The board confirmed subscriptions qualifying under Rule F 2.8 are those directed to military personnel for their personal use. Copies delivered to waiting rooms or other public place locations (to include transportation venues) are not eligible for qualification under this rule.
