Annual Newsstand Publications
A new streamlined reporting process has been adopted for all annual newsstand publications. This process is optional and is available immediately to any newsstand-only annual publication.
The new streamlined reporting process allows annual newsstand publications to not submit Publisher's Statements. This means that only an Audit Report will be generated on these publications. If a publication chooses to use this new process, they are required to participate in ABC Rapid Report.
Rule F14.2 was adopted, effective November 13, 2006, for publications wishing to take this option. These rules include the following:
- Publications eligible for simplified reporting are newsstand-only annual publications. Publications published more frequently than annually, or electing to report other circulation types, are required to adhere to traditional reporting practices.
- Participating publications are required to participate in submission of interim data through ABC Rapid Report to allow users of ABC data in-period estimates of sales.
- The Audit Report would note no comparison to statement data and would note participation in Rapid Report and final Rapid Report estimates.
- In place of traditional Rapid Report for which the Publisher’s Statement is populated for comparison purposes and the Rapid Report information is removed once the audit has been released; Rapid Report would carry the Audit Report comparison and remain available until the subsequent audit has been released. (i.e. 2006 edition Rapid Report data would remain posted with audit results from the 2006 edition until the 2007 edition audit is available)
- FAS-FAX for participating publications carries the title entry and test that publication does not file a semiannual Publisher’s Statement.
- Publication’s audit data would be used to populate ABC database and for access in e-analysis tools.
