Hotel Guide—U.S. Newspapers (Effective April 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010)

Third-Party Sales

A hotel, or other eligible sponsor, may choose to purchase newspapers as a complimentary amenity to hotel guests. These copies are free to the guests and may be made available for use in public areas of the hotel or delivered to the guest rooms. These programs are governed by ABC’s third-party guidelines.

If the hotel intends to resell the copies or include the cost of the copies as part of the guest room charge, then these are individually paid, single copy or other paid, single copy, not third-party sales.

In summary, the third-party sales guidelines require the following:

  1. The hotel must order the newspapers.
  2. All copies ordered must be available for pick-up by guests.
  3. The hotel must pay at least one cent per copy or subscription, net of all considerations.
  4. The hotel must be invoiced for the newspapers during the normal billing cycles established by the newspaper.
  5. The copies distributed must be the current issue.
