Pass-Along Receivership Study for Business Publications

An ABC Pass-along Receivership Study verifies research conducted to determine "total projected audience," a commonly used business-to-business industry metric that describes the number of qualified subscribers plus the additional people to whom a business publication is routed.

How it Works

  1. The publisher and the research firm determine the study’s objective and format and submit it to ABC for approval.
  2. ABC works with a publisher’s contracted research firm that is conducting a publisher’s pass-along receivership study. ABC reviews and approves the pass-along receivership survey to be mailed to the publication’s subscriber sample.
  3. The publisher designates an analyzed issue for the study.
  4. Auditors request and review the full file, then reconcile the information to the Publisher’s Statement data for the analyzed issue.
  5. ABC works with the publisher to determine a sufficient sample size for the study.
  6. ABC either selects or oversees the selection of the random sample. This sample is then sent to the research firm.
  7. The research firm assembles and sends the survey to the list of identified recipients.
  8. Completed surveys are collected by the research firm.
  9. ABC auditors visit the research company and assess the surveys.
  10. When at least 40 percent of the surveys are returned, the research firm tabulates the data from the received surveys.
  11. ABC verifies and determines the final total projected reach as determined by the study.
  12. Once completed, the study is prepared for release as a Supplemental Data Report.
