Server-Based instructions for submission of Audience-FAX Web activity data

If your newspaper has chosen to use a server-based metric for reporting on website activity for the Publisher’s Statement period, here are some instructions that may assist you.

All server-based reporting of website activity should be from one month in the Publisher’s Statement period.

Submission of your Web activity data must be made no later than close of business on the Publisher’s Statement filing deadline: April 15/October 15 (5:00 pm CT).

Instructions for Omniture:

If your organization will be using Hitbox, 24/7, Townwire/Zwire, Webtrends or publisher log files, you need to submit the same data. The general reports should be similar to Omniture. If you are unsure, please contact your vendor for instructions.

You are required to submit all four of the above reports, even if you only wish to disclose monthly unique users for ABC's Audience-FAX. The additional reports, including page views, are necessary for ABC to perform its audit function. Once you have the files and reports available, you can upload them via the Audience-FAX website activity submission form.

If you have any questions about ABC's Audience-FAX, please contact your Publisher Relations manager.

IMPORTANT TO READ: Omniture Requirements for Audit:

Please ensure your Omniture representative has been contacted to archive and data warehouse the log files for the month(s) being filed with ABC. This information will be requested from our audit staff during the audit of your Omniture data.

A ‘Data Warehouse’ is the transactional level log files that Omniture records to support your site traffic reporting. The specific files(s) that ABC needs are daily file names (hit_data.tsv), which are usually included as part of a tar ball containing some other files.

Inside the tar ball are the files: browser.tsv, browser_type.tsv, color_depth.tsv, connection_type.tsv, country.tsv, hit_data.tsv, javascript_version.tsv, languages.tsv, operating_systems.tsv, plugins.tsv, resolution.tsv, search_engines.tsv and timezones.tsv.

All of the files should be supplied to ABC upon request from our audit staff. The hit_data.tsv provides the exact transactional level details needed to conduct the audit. One file for each day of the month should be made available to ABC.

Our audit staff will be in contact with you during the course of your audit of the Omniture claims. At that time, specific instructions will be provided to you regarding the placement of these files on our FTP site.
